This guide details the Regular Meds section of the Dashboard module. The Regular Meds area will be utilized regularly by childcare room staff. The other areas are covered in more detail in separate modules. There are multiple areas in the Dashboard modules, and depending on your permission levels, you may only have access to certain areas.
You can also download the attached PDF guide at the bottom of this screen.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Regular Meds
Login to the Child Friendly app:
- Click the Dashboard icon - the first icon on the lefthand side.
2. Select the Regular Meds tab at the top.
The Regular Meds tab outlines any child who has a medication in their chart that needs to be administered periodically at set times by a staff member. An example is a week’s course of antibiotics.
Anything that is used in cases of emergency, such as an epipen or inhaler, will be documented in the child’s Journal. Medications are added either by an admin or a parent in the parent portal.
A list of any children with scheduled medication for the day appears in the main area – Upcoming. For instance, a child may have an ear infection that requires antibiotics. The child’s name will be displayed along with the medication, the Center group he or she belongs to, and the med administration time. Make sure you check the Upcoming section every morning, so that you know who requires meds for the day.
3. Click on the child’s name to open up their file.
In the child's file, scroll down to the Health section, and then find the Medication header. The Medication section is where you can find details about any medications the child requires, the medication administration time, as well as detailed instructions. You can also see if the medication has an end date.
In the example below, the child finishes her medication on May 31, so we will no longer need to give it to her after this date. This medication will also not show up on the child’s file after the “End Date”.
4. Close the child’s file by clicking on the side arrow.
Marking a Medication as Complete
When you have given the child their medication, it is very important you mark the medication as Complete in the system. This ensures no med times show up as "skipped" and also prevents doubling on dosages. Keeping these digital records goes a long way in removing errors that can occur with paper records.
1. Click the Complete button in the Action section.
2. In the dialog box, add your name in the Administered by field. Enter the Time the medication was given to the child.
Lastly, add the Dosage you gave. You can also add any Notes if necessary. When you have finished entering all
necessary details, click the green check mark.
Marking a Medication as Skipped
If the medication was skipped, you can select the Skipped button. An example of why a medication would be skipped is that the child’s caregiver came to get them before administration time. Even if the med was skipped, it’s important to add this for record-keeping purposes.
- To skip a medication, click the Skip button beside the child’s name.
2. In the Notes dialog box, add the reason why the medication was skipped. When you have finished adding your
note, click the green check mark.
NOTE: You will be unable to mark the medication as “skipped” if you do not enter a note.
3. Once you mark the medication as either Complete or Skipped, it will show up in the Records section.
4. You can also change the timeframe to go back and see all the different medications for a different time period, for
example, the past week. Change the dates at the top, and then click the Apply button.
Check for Upcoming Medication Times and Filter by Group
Ensure you check the medication area daily so that you don’t miss any medications.
- The Due Now area shows any children that are now due for their medication. Past Due will show if a child’s medication was missed or not marked in the system.
IMPORTANT NOTE: A medication will show up as “Past Due” one hour past the time it should be administered.
2. You can also filter medication according to Group, so that you only view the children in your group who require
medication. To filter by group:
- Select the Group filter icon
- A drop-down arrow is now visible. Select the drop-down arrow. From here, you see all groups that have a child who requires medication.
- Select the group you want to filter for. The view changes to show only children in that particular group that require regular meds.
